Oktoberfest in Munich

Yes, it is the season of Dirndl, Lederhosen, and beer in Munich: which means Oktoberfest! But wait, it's only September, you may ask. It seems the Bavarians don't like waiting for their beer, so Oktoberfest actually starts a month earlier. This year, the 175th Oktoberfest began September 20th and will run through October 5th.

A wonderful place to find lots of current photos of the Oktoberfest and other sites in Munich is the Munich Daily Photo blog. There I also found links to an inspiring article in the NY Times calling Munich Germany's Hot Spot and the International Herald Tribune reports on Munich being voted the world's most liveable city. Made me feel pretty good about my current hometown.

I am looking forward to October. I have been working on lots of new artwork, which I hope to have finished, photographed, and posted soon. Fall has arrived, the days are getting shorter, and the light is changing. There is a special atmosphere here at this time of year, and I don't mind staying at home when the weather isn't pleasant and the evening arrives earlier and earlier. Time to cozy up with a good book and a blanket, make a hot cup of tea, and enjoy. Or, alternatively, go to Oktoberfest and see the spectacle!

Hello,
This is Troy at Munich Daily Photo. I saw your blog months ago when I first moved to Munich and your post on my site brought me back there - so thanks for that.

So my question for you, since you seem to be in this artist community that I know little about... If you are looking for artwork in Munich and you don't want to spend a fortune, where would you suggest looking?

A friend suggested the student shows at the Academy of Art in Munich, but I know little about this timing.

I'm guessing that based upon your work, and your contacts within this blog that you would have some great advice.

Thanks for your help.
All the best

I'm so jealous of you right now - living right in the middle of all the beer-related festivities!
